When trying to restore your iPhone or iPod touch with iTunes, you may see the following error message: "Unable to restore phone. Unknown error (6)"

Solution
Update to the latest version of iTunes. (In iTunes for Windows, choose Help > Check for Updates. On a Mac choose iTunes > Check for Updates .)
